Our office employs effective therapies for each individual case. Below, you’ll find a brief explanation of the techniques and modalities that we use at our practice.
Manipulation/Adjustments
A form of treatment utilized by doctors of chiropractic and osteopathy. It is used to improve joint function and flexibility, and is generally applied in a quick streching type of movement. Many times a "popping" sound may be heard in which the vertebral segments have effectively seperated and stretched.
Trigger Point Therapy
The primary purpose of Trigger Point Therapy is to reduce the pain that results from hypersensitive muscles. Trigger points are identified by gently pressing on the
surface of the skin, sensing the texture of the underlying muscle.
A trigger point is like a knot the size of a pea, buried deep in the muscle tissue. It is made up of lactic acid, a normal byproduct of muscular activity, which
sometimes gets trapped in the muscle from physical, chemical or emotional stress.
Ultrasound
High frequency sound waves are emitted through a pizoelectric crystal that penetrate into the muscles and tendons. This helps to imrove blood flow and circulation, and promotes healng of damaged or stressed areas.
Electrical Muscle Stimulation
Electrical current is applied to an area where pain is present. This helps to reduce the amount of discomfort that is being experienced in the affected area. Sometimes a tetanizing current can be used in muscles that are atrophied or deconditioned and cann be helpful in strengthening those muscles
Massage
There are several types that we use in our office.
Vibration massage helps to eleviate tension and pain.
Deep Tissue breaks up scar tissue and adhesion and allows proper motion ofmucle fibers.
Sports Stretch
A combination of stretching muscles in a shortened position followed by a deep tissue type application in a stretched position. This can be performed by hand and with the assistance of the Cox flexion/distraction table. It is very effecitve in mobilizing the joints actively and passively, while applying stretch to the muscles with simultaneous massage.
In Office and Home Stretch and Strengthen Programs
Exercise, strengthening, and streching are important components to maintaining healthy joints and muscles. Specific exercises are prescribed for each individual patient. These help to establish a strong working foundation that assits each persons to function more comfortably in their daily activities.
